(Bridgetown, March 31, 2020) Employers who have not yet filed the monthly 2019 Pay As You Earn (PAYE) returns for their employees, need to do so now.

This insistence comes from Communications Officer at the Barbados Revenue Authority, Erica Lazare, who noted that the 2019 individual income tax filing season is set to begin in a few days.

“We are again urging those employers who are yet to file, to ensure the relevant 2019 information for every employee, whether income tax is deducted from their salaries or not, is filed in TAMIS.”

“They should report a monthly breakdown for each employee, such as monthly salary, allowances, NIS contributions and any deducted income tax. Therefore, employers are required to file a return for January 2019, February 2019 and so on, through to December 2019,” she explained, adding that these should have been filed since last year by the 15th of each following month.

She further stated that the BRA is appealing for employers to file all twelve returns today because failure to do so will negatively impact their own staff.

“For the 2018 filing season, we received so many complaints from employees that their bosses simply did not upload their salary information to TAMIS, which in turn prevented them from filing accurate individual returns. We do not want a repeat of that situation when filing begins in April,” she asserted.

Lazare is reminding employers that they must have the Tax Identification Numbers of each staff member when filing and shared that a PAYE guidelines resource is available on the bra.gov.bb website.
