Yes, drivers over 70 years of age are required to provide a medical certificate from a doctor when renewing their licences. The certificate should state that the holder of the drivers' licence is fit to drive and must also bear a doctor's stamp.

Drivers' licences can be renewed for 1, 3 or 5 years.

Note that persons 65 years of age and over are required to renew their licence every year.

The following documents must be presented to Barbados Revenue Authority personnel when registering a vehicle (new or used):

• Weight certificate
• Letter of sale
• Insurance
• Completed registration form (forms available from the payment section at all BRA locations)

Your gas tank should be full when you take your vehicle to be weighed at the the Licensing Authority's weigh bridge at their Pine, St. Michael location.

The red book is no longer considered a valid licence and is obsolete. Persons who want to renew the book must present their National Registration Card in order to pay and renew their licences.

You should then visit either one of the Barbados Licensing Authority's card centres at their Pine, St. Michael or Southern Plaza, Oistins location to obtain the new drivers' licence card.

Payment is due on the birth date of the license holder but can be paid at any time during that month.

If possible, license holders should try to pay and renew their driver's licences before the final working day of the month as this is when taxpayer lines tend to be heaviest.

For persons renewing for the first time after receiving their licences, prices will vary. This is simply because those licences have to be adjusted to the taxpayer's birth month.
